A 5K PR & A Too Small Singlet

March 2011 - Shamrock 5k 015

I’ll keep today sweet and simple. Thanks to all of your encouragement and support, the Dublin Shamrock 5K was a success in more ways than one: a new PR and a 2011 goal is now complete (placing overall)! It wasn’t as painful as I had expected and am now considering all 5Ks a Band-Aid race. You don’t really want to do it, but if you just breathe and yank it off – it will be over in a no time. Plus, you’ll realize it wasn’t all that bad.

Time: 19:17
Overall Female: 3rd
Age Group: 1st / 157
Overall: 37 / 1618

March 2011 - Shamrock 5k 011

I wasn’t the only one who got to enjoy the festivities though. I scooped up free post-race pizza and sandwiches for Chicken Face – this is how I pay him for being my personal bag check!

And yes, that jersey is sucking my insides out. The new running club that I joined was nice enough to loan me a jersey when I got to the race – little did I know it would be about five sizes too small for me. They called it the “5K Corset” and I’m considering it my initiation.

Happy Running!

I’m so excited to have found your blog through Emma’s!! You’re officially my new inspiration! I just set my 5k PR at 22:29 and was stoked, and while that seemed unachievable a few months before, I’m convinced I can do better. I love the band-aid metaphor. It’s so true! It hurts for a while, but when you’re running that fast, it doesn’t take long. I can’t wait to keep reading your blog! :)

  23. March 14, 2011 6:06 pm

congratulations! you never cease to amaze me, seriously!

question: what headband do you use and how do you get it to stay? i have tried numerous brands and none of them work! they all slip off!

Naomi, I used to have the same problem with headbands..then I tried violetlove!! http://www.violetloveheadbands.com -they’re a little pricey but they occasionally have sales where you can scoop some up at steal prices! The SHE ones are specifically made for athletes as the designer is a runner herself!!
