Must…Stop…Registering…
Ladies and gentleman, I’m getting antsy. Not necessarily antsy for Chicago, Long Beach, or Surf City, but just antsy to race again. What’s that you say? I just did the San Francisco half a couple weeks ago? ‘Tis true, but all of those damn Active.com emails telling me what races are coming up do such a good job of luring any racing lover in. Damn you, Active.com! Couple this with the fact that my cousin invited me to Santa Barbara during Labor Day weekend to race Pier to Peak…how could I resist?!
So, it looks like I’ll be adding a few more pre-Chicago races to the calendar. First up, the Santa Barbara Pier to Peak half marathon. As I mentioned earlier, I’m going with my cousin as it’s her first half marathon ever. After she told me that she signed up, I gently reminded her that this race’s claim to fame is running up a 4,000 ft. elevation change. She almost lost her stuff, if you know what I mean.
Next up is a local race that starts practically outside my front door: Pleasanton’s “Back to School Scholarship Run.” I’m still debating between the 5k and 10k, but figured I should get a mini race in before Chicago anyways.
Others that I’ve filled out the entire registration form for but just haven’t clicked submit include the Healdsburg Wine Country half on October 30th (thanks for the recommendation, Aron) and San Francisco’s U.S. half marathon on November 7th. I feel like there are so, so many good races in California during the fall and I want to jam them all in!
So, is anyone else out there going to be doing Pier to Peak, the Scholarship Run, Healdsburg or the U.S. half? Holla! What other races are you all doing this fall?
Happy running!

oooo, maybe i’ll do the scholarship run in pleasanton too! i’ll have to check my schedule! have you heard of the mermaid races too? they have a 5/10K at crissy field in november. its a super fun, women’s only race and they serve you a pancake breakfast afterwards!
Pancake breakfast?!?!? Sign a sister up!
Thanks for the recommendation, Naomi. I’m going to check it out!
I’m doing Healdsburg again! It’s a really, really fun race!!! And, Ron recommended the US Half, too. Might have to look into that!
Hmm…that back to school one looks good – damn you Page and your tempting posts!
The Pleasanton one is on my list as a challenge series race for the team I train with so I will most likely be there too
If we get 6 people to register for Healdsburg we can save $10! That’s how I did it last year… maybe I need to send an email
In the same antsy feeling of finding a race in September before Long Beach, I thought about Pier to Peak for about 30 seconds and then looked at the elevation chart and that was the end of that thought.
Also looked at the Healdsburg Wine Country one but the cost (and the drive) is a bit steep – figured I’d just wait a week and do either the Fresno one on the 7th, or Snow Canyon on the 6th. The drive from SD is easily doable to those places in a day
)
I didnt know you were running chicago!! seems i may be meeting you a week sooner than i thought
I might do Healdsburg depending on how well I survive Chicago/LB…I might still be hobbling along by then…lol
Oh wow, I hope Aron sends out that email for Healdsburg because I wanna run it!!
CIM is in December, I guess that’s more of a winter race (last year it was 28 degrees, haha) but I did the relay and it was sooo fun, I want to do it again!! Each team consists of four runners…hint, hint…sorry! Not helping your obsession, but hey, that’s what running friends are for
Racing is so addicting! It’s so fun to be surrounded by runners for the entire day, why wouldn’t you want to spend your weekend that way
Can’t wait to hear how you do!
